Classes, FCBD, and a 4th of July Update
Jul. 6th, 2004 11:20 amSo I'm finally updating this with real information because for once I actually have something to say -- Lately I haven't had anything to write because I haven't been doing anything worth mentioning, since all I've been doing is watching TV (mostly Adult Swim) and playing computer games.
So the first thing is classes. Sometime this week I'm supposed to be able to start up my second half of Bio and American History, and my new class Mythology. Luckily without the writing class I should be able to finish them much faster. My current goal is to get them done by at least Halloween and I'm hoping to finish by my birthday. (Turning 18 YAY!) And then comes the harder parts.... I have 12 credits left to go with each of my one semester classes counting as 1/2 a credit. I have to take another year of English; but I already finished AP English so Mr. Dias (what a great guy by the way... He is the first helpful person in the entire school system I've come across) is seeing what he can do to persuade the head of curriculum to allow me to take AP British Lit (SWEET) but it's not currently part of the WHS curriculum. I also need to take a year of Geometry since trying to finish it out with a tutor hasn't worked at all and I now have no choice but to take the entire class over again. And then after *that's* finished I have to take Algebra II. And somewhere in the midst of it all I have to work out 9 credits of electives. Now my first elective after Mythology is probably going to be Mystery Fiction (which I've mentioned before.) But that still leaves me with 8.5 elective credits to go. QUITE a bit. And honestly, my online classes have a lot of options but not that much. Generally it's assumed that you take at least some normal classes (but I can't take Chemistry -- though I could take Physics, and well let's just say it's pretty messed up) so looking through the list, if I try to avoid classes with writing in them (which is what will slow me down a lot) then pretty much the classes that are left are all history classes (including King Arthur and Medieval Times and Medieval History) and politcs -- which I am actually pretty interested in.
However all things considered, at the pace I'm going at now (which is ridiculously unbelievably slow because I'm so sick... If only it was just the headaches; I could be whizzing through this stuff like Speedy Gonzales) and considering all the classes I have left to take (plus the English class which itself will take me 9 months per each semester) I won't be graduating till I'm 21. Which would make a year behind Laura only a year ahead of Pat. Not to mention 3 years behind where I was supposed to graduate. *sigh* I'm not really very upset about it though. I should be but maybe I'm numb, maybe I'm just resigned to it by now. Plus, until I get better enough to actually be able to do my normal classes at a regular place, going to college isn't really going to be feasible. (Although if I'm not better by the time I'm 21, I'm gonna try for college anyways. I'll just be switching my major from C.W. and struggling to find a way to keep writing as part of my life)
Well I think that covers the classes aspect, now onto FCBD (or Free Comic Book Day.) It was lots of fun I must say. Patrick and Brian both got free autographed copies of the frist Teen Titans issue, Mom picked up a bunch of Star Trek books (as well as some comic books for my Grandfather -- Dad's side; he's majorly into Superheroes) and I picked up a Political Manga for myself (Sorethumbs rocks my world!) as well as a preview of the 2nd Volume of Negima (by Ken Akamatsu, same author as Love Hina, more on that later) and this other TokyoPop manga combination thingy. -- Negima by the way is new, and published by Del Rey for anyone who's curious. This itself greatly sparks my interest since Del Rey was the other major fantasy publishing company I was looking at (the first being Tor) the only problem is that they won't read anything by unagented authors. And also, they had a hardcover copy of the Icewind Dale Trilogy for $5 so Pat was able to buy it for me, replacing my old paperbook version that he'd more or less shredded (they also had the entire Ian Flemings collection which I was tempted to get but I have no money and like 70 other things on my list, and now I have added manga. So it's going on my birthday list.)
Which now brings me to the 4th of July -- Most of which I don't actually remember because I got a super-bad classic migraine near the end of it, about halfway through the concert which made that part hell, however, that which I do remember (aside from the migraine) was totally awesome. It started off super-early (of course) and we all spent forever getting out the door and then stopped at Dunkin Donuts (to get donuts and bagels) which took even longer but EVENTUALLY we got to Boston ok. And like I said I can't really remember too much about it. I remember that when we were in line, Leanne was doing some cross-stitching and Lizzie's friend had brought like TONS of manga with her, including Volumes 9-12 of IY, and the first volumes of both Love Hina and Ranma 1/2 which I read, loved, and am now an enormous fan -- particularly of the latter. One of the advantages to the manga vs. the anime is that it's a lot cheaper for one thing ($40 for 6 episodes that come in 2 dvds, vs. $10 for 6 in one volume) however the disadvantage comes in that my headaches are getting to the point where pretty much all reading can make them worse (vs. watching tv which VERY VERY rarely hurts at all.) Anyways, so there was that. We also played card games and went rollerblading. And I KNOW that I've definitely got holes in my memory but there's not much I can do to fill them. Damn migraines.
Anyways I had a blast, I love hanging out with Leanne (even when we're not doing anything,) and I'm now hooked on manga... which means I really should find a way to get a job or something because at $10 a month I am not making nearly enough money for my hobbies.
And speaking of migraines, I'm still not fully recovered from Sunday so I need to go take a break again. But before I go, 2 more things: Lupin III is back, YAY!!! And both my brothers were supposed to go camp together this week (starting Sunday but it was put off till yesterday) but Pat wound up going to the hospital yesterday for a stomach-ache (not at all a big deal. I think he just doesn't want to go to camp) and so my Mom took Brian today. And um yeah... that's it.
So TTFN
